Ⅰ. Teaching objectives:
At the end of the class, the students are expected to:
1. be clear of the rules of subjunctive mood;
2. make sentences, dialogues and chain stories and complete a passage using subjunctive mood;
3. use subjunctive mood to polish up the writing;
4. use subjunctive mood to express regret about being rude at parents and to express appreciation for parents’ sacrifices.

Step 1: Lead-in

Step 2: Analyze and understand
1. Read July’s story at the parents’ meeting and underline the sentences using subjunctive mood.
2. Think over the mother’s feelings.
3. Review the rules.
4. Activity 1: Make a dialogue.
Talk about your conflict or disagreement with your parents and express your wish for better relation with them using the sentence structures revised above.
5. Activity 2 : Polish up the underlined sentences using subjunctive mood.
Step 3: Review and activate
1. Review the rules.
2. Activity 3: Express your feeling of regret according to the given situation and tell a chain story.

Step 4: Practise and consolidate
假定你是李华,你母亲的生日即将到来,为了表示对她的感恩,请你给她写一封信,内容包括:1.表示感恩;2.回顾母亲对你的付出;3.你的祝愿。

(2) Write a letter to thank your father and use subjunctive mood if possible.
