一、教学内容分析
【What】主题意义和主要内容
本书讲述的是非洲国家乍得的小朋友上学的故事。乍得一年下一场大雨,那里的孩子们每年入学都会在学哥学姐的带领下自己动手造一个泥土和干草建成的学校,并在这个由自己亲手建造的学校里快乐地学习,期末时一场大雨会把校舍全部冲毁,如此往复。体现了“大雨冲走了泥土的学校,但冲不走孩子们求学求知的心,外界条件虽然贫乏,但孩子们的心却被知识填满❤”这一主题。
在乍得,开学第一天,Thomas和孩子们兴致勃勃地跟着哥哥姐姐们去往学校,到学校后发现并没有教室,老师说我们的第一节课就是建造我们自己的学校,Thomas和其他孩子们开始学着用泥土和干草搭建学校,制作课桌椅,并且在自己动手建造的校舍里学习孩子们学习十分投入,学期结束的时候,大家都收获颇丰。离开学校后,乍得的雨季来临了,狂风骤雨将用泥土和干草搭建的校舍顷刻间化为乌有。不过,新的一学年,这里又会迎来一批求知若渴的孩子搭建属于他们自己的知识乐园……

本书按照事情的发展顺序,主要用一般现在时和一般将来时讲述了乍得的孩子们渴望学习、自己创造条件学习、最终收获知识并将这一传统延续下去
【Why】写作意图
二、学情分析
本书难度不大,话题贴近学校生活,初二学生已经具备了一定的词汇量,英语基础知识和阅读能力,这本图文并茂的小故事对初二的学生来说难度适宜,理解上不难,着重鼓励学生表达。由于本节课是借班上课,故对学生个体不甚了解。

Step 1 Read the cover
Questions:
1. What can you see from the book cover?
2. What do you want to know from the book?
【设计意图】本环节旨在吸引学生注意力,通过自己设问来增强阅读时的目的性,帮助学生激发阅读兴趣。
Step 2 Read the story part by part
Part 1
The teacher shows the picture, students read P328-332, find out:
Who are these children?
Where are they going?
Part 1 is about Children go to school.
What does Thomas do on his way to school?
How does he feel? (read in an exciting voice)
What is the school like?
Does the teacher give them a class at once?
What does she do at first?
【设计意图】利用一些比较简单的问题,让学生逐渐进入阅读状态。
Part 2
Read how they build their school from P334-341, and work out the building process:
First, ……
Then, ……
Next, ……
Finally, ……
【设计意图】梳理动词,强调造学校需要做的工作很多,从而引导学生分析主人公情感。

The teacher asks students to find out some more details of Thomas’s study at school, underline them and discuss with your partners about your understanding.

Part 4
After children leave the school, what happens? Read P350-353
A heavy rain takes away the school, but it doesn’t matter, why?
Since the school disappears, What will happen when school starts next year? Have a guess.
Read the last two pages together.
Step 3 Discussion and Summary
Discuss the difference and similarities(相似之处) between rain school and your school in your group.

Help Thomas write a diary: one day at school.
