Learning objectives:

By the end of this class, students will be able to:

1. identify the setting and characters in the continuation writing based on the original story and the given sentences of two paragraphs;

2. predict and design the plots logically and coherently by analyzing the development of plots and theme of the original story;

3. improve their continuation writing ability by applying the rules of being consistent, coherent and positive.

Key points and difficult points:

Design the plots coherently and highlight the positive theme wisely;

Evaluate their peer’s first paragraph and outline the possible plot of the second paragraph.

Teaching methods:

Teaching procedures:

Step 1: Read for basic elements

Go through the story to find out the setting of the story and the characters

Identify the setting and characters in continuation writing

Step 2: Read for plots and emotional changesRead the story again to find out the plots and emotional changes in the story

Step 3: Design the plot (Para 1)Design the possible plot of Para1 by finding out the echoing points in the story

Step 4: Writing (Para 1)

Finish writing Para1

Step 5: Presentation & Evaluation

Pair work to share and evaluate each other’s writing according to the checklist

Present some of students’ writing to the whole class

Step 6: Outline the possible plot Para 2

Group work to outline the possible plot of Para 2

Explore the theme in the continuation writing by following the emotional changes of the main character

Step 7: Summary

Step 8: Assignment1. Finish your writing2. Polish up your writing according to the checklist.
